I have been involved in restoration projects as early as I can remember. My father noticed my ability to take things apart and repair them at a young age. He put me to work on our Spanish style home right here in Los Angeles. One of my first assignments was to restore all the interior shaker style doors with the old mortise locksets complete with skeleton keys and ball tip hinges. I was assigned to take them apart, strip the doors and hardware, repair their functionality, and then reinstall them with new finishes that complimented the 1920's Spanish Revival home.
Two decade later, that childhood interest has morphed into both my passion and profession. Above it all, I take the utmost pride in my craft. I take great satisfaction that an older home, which in most cases will stand longer than a home built today, will survive for another generation to enjoy. That the character and charm that makes a neighborhood cohesive will remain intact.
